From Friendly Games to the Tournament Court: HKUBSAA at the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Badminton Tournament

Hong Kong

On 27 September, HKU Business School Alumni Association (HKUBSAA) took to the court at the 2026 Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Youth Business Community Badminton Tournament. Co-organised by the Young Executives’ Committee of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and the Hong Kong Police Badminton Club, the event brought together 21 business, professional and youth organisations from Hong Kong and across the Greater Bay Area. Using badminton as a bridge, participants enjoyed both intense competition and meaningful exchanges, strengthening ties across sectors and regions.

Four alumni represented HKUBSAA in the men’s doubles and mixed doubles events, including Prof. Chen ZHAO, Associate Professor and an alumnus of HKU Business School.

It was a rewarding day on court:

  • Mixed Doubles – Silver Plate Champion
  • Men’s Doubles – Gold Cup 3rd Place

These results showcased the skill, resilience and team spirit of our alumni — and the energy of the HKU Business School community both inside and outside the classroom.

The significance of this tournament goes beyond the scoreboard. Throughout the year, HKUBSAA has been actively organising a range of sports activities — including badminton, table tennis and pickleball. From regular friendly meet-ups to formal competitions, sport has become a powerful medium to reconnect and stay active, turning the court into a space for both camaraderie and collaboration.

Special thanks to Vice President of the Executive Committee David Hong for coordinating the team and leading regular sports activities, and our President Marvin Hung for his great support.

We look forward to seeing more alumni on court in the near future — and to many more moments of connection, challenge and celebration together. Next time, let’s meet again on the court!
