We are excited to invite you to an exclusive event: HKU-Pepperdine Cross-Pacific Dialogue on Law, Economics & Innovation, featuring a Fireside Chat on International Law and Global Economics and a Panel Discussion on Venture Capital, Universities, and Geopolitics: Navigating Innovation Between Hong Kong, the US and Asia.

Join us on Friday, 24 April 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Studio 303, 3rd floor, Chong Yuet Ming Cultural Centre, HKU Main Campus. This special morning brings together distinguished leaders from California and Hong Kong for timely discussions on how international law, economic policies, and geopolitical shifts are reshaping global innovation and business.

The event commences with speeches and a fireside chat on International Law and Global Economics welcoming Guest of Honour, Prof. Jim Gash who is President & CEO of Pepperdine University. Prof. Hualing Fu, Dean of HKU’s Faculty of Law and Prof. Heiwai Tang, Associate Vice-President (Global) at HKU & Associate Dean (External Relations) at HKU Business School will be the speakers representing HKU.

This will be followed by a panel discussion on Venture Capital, Universities, and Geopolitics: Navigating Innovation Between Hong Kong, the US and Asia featuring Prof. Kenneth Wong, Director & Kerry Group Professor in Public Policy at the HKU School of Governance and Policy, as well as Prof. C. Jason Woodard, Co-Director at the HKU School of Innovation. This panel will be moderated by Pepperdine alumnus, Mr. Beaux Pontak, Managing Director at Deutsche Bank.

This event is hosted in collaboration with the HKU Faculty of Law and the HKU Business School Alumni Association, and will offer a valuable opportunity for HKU students, alumni, faculty, and friends to engage with top academics and industry experts from both sides of the Pacific.

Light refreshments will be served during registration.
