On 15 March 2026, HKU Business School held the 2026 HKUBS Mainland Alumni Networks Annual Leadership Meeting at HKU iCube, bringing together leaders and representatives from the School’s Mainland alumni networks to deepen cross-regional collaboration and align priorities for the year ahead. The meeting marked an important step forward for the North China, South China and East China alumni networks as they move into a more coordinated phase of development centred on digitalisation and standardisation, with a shared focus on sustainable governance, stronger engagement and long-term impact.

In his opening remarks, Professor Hongbin Cai, Dean and Chair of Economics at HKU Business School, expressed appreciation to the board members of the three Mainland alumni networks for their continued commitment to connecting alumni and supporting the School’s development. He noted that the meeting, held after the establishment of the three Mainland alumni networks, marked a transition from building foundations to pursuing higher-quality, collaborative growth. Professor Cai reiterated the School’s aspiration to be not only a leader in teaching and research rankings, but also a globally influential, world-class business school that creates enduring value for Hong Kong, the nation, and the wider world. He emphasised that a cohesive and active alumni community is essential to realising this vision, and encouraged the three Mainland alumni networks to learn from one another and strengthen strategic alignment with the School.

In a keynote address, Mr. Marvin HUNG, President-elect of the HKU Business School Alumni Association (Hong Kong) and a member of the CPPCC National Committee, Vice Chairman of Hung’s Group, and Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Hop Hing Group Holdings Limited, framed his remarks around national development priorities and the concept of new quality productive forces, and called on alumni to embrace long-term thinking, complement one another’s strengths and pursue innovation-driven collaboration. He also encouraged the alumni community to leverage Hong Kong’s unique advantages under “One Country, Two Systems”, seize opportunities arising from technological transformation, and contribute to Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability as well as the country’s high-quality development.

Sharing the School’s 2026 direction for Mainland alumni development, Mr. HUANG Haibin, Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Affairs of HKU Business School, outlined a roadmap focused on building a more connected and sustainable alumni ecosystem. He noted that in just over a year, the three Mainland alumni networks were established in rapid succession, laying the groundwork for a core alumni network across key Mainland regions. Looking ahead, Mr. Huang highlighted that the next stage will be jointly driven by alumni digital platform development and more standardised governance, with an emphasis on consolidating experience, enabling orderly succession, and supporting long-term, sustainable growth. He added that the School will continue working with alumni networks and the wider alumni community to co-build a lifelong learning platform that empowers alumni while supporting the School and contributing to society.

During the alumni networks’ sharing session, representatives from the North China, South China and East China alumni networks reviewed their 2025 accomplishments and presented 2026 plans, showcasing progress in organisational development, signature programmes, alumni services and empowerment, cross-sector collaboration, support for the School and engagement with the wider community. The meeting concluded with open exchange, with participants noting that the gathering strengthened mutual understanding across regions and injected fresh momentum into alumni collaboration as HKU Business School builds on its 25th anniversary milestone.
